Victory Day was celebrated in the republic

Victory Day in Tiraspol began with the laying of flowers at the Memorial of Glory. Those for whom this holiday continues to be one of the main ones, not only in national history, but also in the modern calendar, came here in the morning. Speaker of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, Vice Speaker Galina Antyufeeva and parliamentarians were among them.

There were no veterans of the Great Patriotic War again on this holiday at the Memorial of Glory on the 78th spring of the Great Victory. There are very few of them in Pridnestrovie. The majority, due to their age and due to combat wounds, practically do not leave their houses, but there were the heirs of the Victory at the Memorial.

The descendants of the generation of winners always come on Victory Day to this sacred for every citizen of Tiraspol place, to the Memorial of Glory. Children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren of those whose ancestors defended the land with weapons in their hands in on the 9th of May 1941-1945, at the Memorial not only with flowers, but with portraits of the winners in their hands. The veterans are back in the ranks even if there is no procession of the Immortal Regiment. Pridnestrovians remember those who protected the world from the brown plague and are proud of their ancestors.

The veterans are slowly leaving. A few years ago there were about two thousand of those who defended homeland with weapons in their hands in 1941-1945 in Pridnestrovie, now there are only a few veterans. They are all about a hundred years old. Victory Day is the most important holiday for them with tears in their eyes even today, even after 78 years.

More than 40 thousand natives of the Pridnestrovian land went to the front, 12 Heroes of the Soviet Union were among them. More than 18000 of our countrymen died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, and about 50000 more civilians died in the occupation.

Another important tradition for Pridnestrovie, which is nine years old, is the raising of the banner of Victory over the main square of Tiraspol after laying flowers. The banner of Victory, an exact copy of the banner rose into the sky, which in May 1945 was raised above the Reichstag to the sounds of the orchestra of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the PMR, which performs the anthem of the Soviet Union.
