The state of emergency in the republic has been extended for another 30 days, until May 9 inclusive due to the ongoing crisis in the economy caused by the reduction in gas supplies to Pridnestrovie. The Decree of the PMR President was approved by the Supreme Council at the 5th emergency meeting of the VIII session of the VII convocation. The special legal regime has been extended for the fourth time.
Commenting on the extension of the state of emergency in the economy, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov noted that Pridnestrovian enterprises are currently unable to operate at full capacity. The republican budget is losing a significant portion of its income because of this. Alexander Korshunov emphasized that the funds in the republican budget are only enough to pay pensions, benefits and salaries to public sector employees.
The energy crisis continues to deal serious blows to the Pridnestrovian economy. The head of the department Sergei Obolonik, announced some statistics at the Board of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic last week. Thus, the volume of industrial production fell by 52.2% compared to the same period in 2024 in 2 months, due to the suspension of the activities of 40 large enterprises and a number of other economic agents. Employees of enterprises were sent on downtime and vacations, some workers quit. As a result, a significant decline in foreign economic activity was recorded at the beginning of 2025: the volume of exports decreased by 58.5%, imports – by 25.6%.
