Journalism and public service - thus was the topic of the round table meeting that was held in the capital. It was attended by the deputy of the Supreme Council of the V convocation Galina Antyufeeva and newly elected member of parliament Andrei Safonov. The event was timed to the memory of journalists killed in the line of duty. This date is celebrated annually on the 15th of December in the Russian Federation. Russian Union of Journalists, established it once in September 1991 in Yugoslavia Russian television correspondent Viktor Nogin and operator Gennady Kurennoj were killed.
Roundtable participants - high school students, students and invited experts - paid tribute to the Pridnestrovian cameraman Valery Vozdvizhensky killed in 1992 while covering the fighting in Bendery. They noted in the course of their speeches that journalists make a significant contribution to society. At the same time, the profession remains one of the most dangerous in the military and in peace time.
Much of the dialogue focused on the current state of Pridnestrovian journalism, what happens to the freedom of expression and as a journalist in modern conditions remain faithful to the profession with dignity.
It was said that independent media in Pridnestrovie can be counted on one hand, and journalists often become technical workers serving the interests of officials, not the society.
Famous Pridnestrovian journalist and writer, a member of the Writers' Union of Pridnestrovie and Russia, a member of the republican newspaper "Pridnestrovie" Nikander Elaginrasskazal about his work in the youth newspaper "The Youth of Pridnestrovie", which began publication in 1999 and lasted only about three years. This edition of the Ministry of Education, according to Elagin allowed them to raise sensitive issues, criticizing the actions of the authorities, dubious reforms. As a result, it was closed.
Representatives of the younger generation who took part in the round table agreed that the situation with expression and freedom of speech in the country is not the best way, and it is impossible to build a just society without it. The children expressed the hope that, despite the difficulties, Pridnestrovian mass media will develop.
At the end of the discussion about the role of journalism, young people were asked the elected deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the questions during the last election campaign, plans to lawmakers.
