An extended meeting of judges of the courts of general jurisdiction of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was devoted to the results of work for 2023. A detailed report was presented to the President by the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Adrian Penkovsky. Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR Alexander Korshunov and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council, head of the Committee on Legislation, Protection of Rights and Freedoms of Citizens Galina Antyufeyeva took part in the extended meeting.
City and district courts processed 35864 cases and materials in 2023, which is 663 more cases than in 2022.
The Supreme Court sent 4 draft laws to parliament to amend the current legislation last year. One law-in-draft has already been adopted by the Supreme Council as a law, three more are at the stage of consideration in the relevant parliamentary Committee.
Adrian Penkovsky noted in his report that the courts of the republic considered 152 materials on the parole of persons from serving their sentences in 2023 (2 times more than in 2022). 111 of these were at the request of convicted persons and 41 at the request of the penal authorities. The total number of satisfied petitions (submissions) for parole is 68.
The PMR Prosecutor Anatoly Guretsky took the floor at the end of the report of the Chairman of the Supreme Court. The head of the control and supervisory body drew attention to the problem of delays in the consideration of cases in the courts.
The final assessment of the work of the courts of general jurisdiction was announced by the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky. The President drew attention to the need to increase the number of off-site meetings. Vadim Krasnoselsky highly appreciated the progress in applying the institution of parole.
The PMR President recognized the work of the courts of general jurisdiction of the PMR in 2023 as satisfactory in general.
