01.03.2024

Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov took part in an extended meeting of the Archival Board of the PMR, dedicated to the report on the work of the archival industry in 2023.

The head of the State Service for Management of Documentation and Archives of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Zinaida Todorashko made a detailed report. According to the data provided, the PMR Archival Fund amounts to 1 million 373 thousand 786 storage units for the years 1823-2023, as of January 1, 2024.

She noted that the Civil Service has carried out work to clarify the principles of forming the Archival Fund of the PMR and actively collaborated with the ministries and departments of the republic over the past 5 years. Four legislative initiatives were sent to parliament for consideration in 2023as part of improving legislation in the archival industry. Joint work began between the State Service for Documentation and Archives Management and the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications to develop the state information system “Archival storage of electronic documents” last year.

The State Service for Documentation and Archives Management on behalf of the President of the PMR continued work on the project “Without a Statute of Limitations” to identify documents about the atrocities of the Nazi invaders on the territory of Pridnestrovie and introduce them into scientific and public circulation. This project was developed by the state archives of the republic as part of an international archival project. It implements an integrated approach to studying the history of the PMR during the Great Patriotic War. The database of the “Without Statute of Limitations” project was completed, documents were digitized, and work began on publishing a collection of archival documents in 2023.

The head of the State Service for Documentation and Archives Management of the PMR Zinaida Todorashko noted that the workload of storage facilities reaches its limits despite the active introduction of digital technologies. Some difficulties arise in accepting other storage units due to the lack of free space. A new building for the State Archives of the PMR will help solve the problem. Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov said this in his speech following the meeting.

The construction of the new building of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic State Archive began in 2020 using funds from the Capital Investment Fund. It will contain documents for permanent storage of government and administrative bodies related to the history of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. These documents are stored in local ministries and departments. The area of the new State Archive building is over 1000 square meters, 700 of which will be archival storage: for documents on paper and digital media. Their storage conditions and temperature conditions will be observed. It is expected that the allocated space will be enough to store documentation for the next 20 years.
