They marked in Bendery the 220th anniversary of the formation of the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment. Large-scale events were held at the Military Historical Memorial Complex, on the territory of which soldiers and officers of the Russian Imperial Army are buried.
Participation in the celebrations was received by the President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba, parliamentarians Sergei Cheban, Oleg Belyakov, Sergei Pisarenko, Anton Onufrienko, Ruslan Gareev, Yuri Kravchuk, heads of ministries and departments, resident of Bendery and guests.
Events began with a moleben held by the Archbishop of Tiraspol and Dubossary Savva in the chapel in honor of the image of the Savior Not Made by Hands - the patron of the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment.
During the ceremonial part it was noted: Soldiers of the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment valiantly defended the borders of our homeland for two centuries. Soldiers of the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment took part in the Patriotic War of 1812, the Crimean War, the Caucasian War, the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878, the Russo-Japanese War and the First World War. This year the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment turns 220 years old, more than half of which this military unit was deployed on the territory of the Bendery Fortress.
In memory of the Russian soldiers, the central worship cross was laid with fresh flowers. Bouquets of scarlet carnations to the monument were laid by speaker Alexander Shcherba and parliamentarians. Then the participants of the celebration passed the procession to the monument of Russian glory. The Bendery symbol - the granite eagle - is the oldest monument in the city. It was installed at the expense of soldiers and officers of the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment in 1912 in honor of the century of victory in the Patriotic War.
The celebrations continued on the territory of the Bendery Fortress. A prayer service was held in the church of Alexander Nevsky. Then, under the dome of the church, Orthodox music was played by the Pridnestrovian state choir.
On the territory of the citadel, a historical reconstruction of the storming of the Bendery fortress by Russian troops under the leadership of General Panin took place. The regimental festival ended with a concert of a patriotic song. A bright spot was the fireworks, which lit up the sky over the Bendery fortress with thousands of lights.
