Programmatic approach to the restoration of the reclamation system

04.11.2020

Deputies of the Supreme Council have been talking about the need to restore irrigation systems in Pridnestrovie for a long time and at different levels. A number of meetings with the Government were held on this issue. The last dry years have shown that the reclamation complex must be restored as soon as possible. We are talking not only about increasing yields, but also about the food security of the republic in general. This year's budget has already included money for the reclamation complex. However, the funds had to be redistributed to other items, in particular, on measures to combat the pandemic. The deputies consider that funds for land reclamation should be earmarked. It should be spent exclusively on measures to restore the irrigation systems of the republic.

Today, the Supreme Council in the course of the plenary session adopted the law-in-draft "On land reclamation in the PMR" in the first reading. The document was prepared by the Committee on Agro-Industrial Complex.

Irrigation in the face of climate change is becoming an integral part of the cultivation of crops. A clear concept for the development of the industry will make it possible to timely carry out current and overhaul repairs of amelioration networks, purchase equipment and machinery, and determine priorities. The law-in-draft envisages the creation of land reclamation development fund, from which state target programs will be financed. In addition, the adoption of the law will provide a planned programmatic approach for the efficiency of work on the restoration and development of the melioration complex of the PMR. According to the deputy corps, land reclamation is an important direction of development not only of the agro-industrial complex, but also of the republic's economy as a whole. Work on the draft law "On land reclamation in the PMR" will be continued in the second reading.
