Acquisition of Pridnestrovian citizenship by birth

Children born in Pridnestrovie should automatically acquire citizenship of the PMR if at least one of the parents has Pridnestrovian citizenship. This is the opinion of the deputies of the Committee on Legislation, Protection of Rights and Freedoms of Citizens. Galina Antyufeeva, Oleg Petrik and Grigory Dyachenko proposed making the corresponding changes to the Constitutional Law "On Citizenship of the PMR". The law-in-draft was discussed at the plenary session of the Supreme Council in the first reading.

The authors initiated the changes based on citizens' appeals. The relevant Committee received 5 positive opinions on the law-in-draft.

This rule will not apply to parents who are foreign citizens or stateless persons. If their child was born in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, then an application will be required, as in the case when the parents (or one of them) are citizens of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, and the child was not born in Pridnestrovie. An application will also need to be submitted to the guardianship authorities if the child's parents are unknown. The Supreme Council unanimously supported the parliamentary law-in-draft in the first reading.
