Pridnestrovians honored the memory of those killed in 1992

01.08.2023

The 1st of August is considered the Day of Remembrance of the fallen and deceased defenders of the PMR in Pridnestrovie. On this day 31 years ago, after the signing of an agreement on the principles of a peaceful settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict, the opposing sides began to part. The bloodshed stopped on the banks of the Dniester. This was discussed at the Memorial of Glory in Tiraspol today. Pridnestrovians participated in the "Memory of the Heart" rally dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the end of the large-scale aggression of the Republic of Moldova against Pridnestrovie.

Flowers were laid at the Eternal Flame by Galina Antyufeeva, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council, First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov, representatives of the Government, ministries and departments, public veteran organizations, widows and relatives of the fallen and deceased defenders. Flowers lay at the graves of the fallen in 1992, at the memorial plates with the names of those who died in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, at the “Grieving May” monument and at the monument to the defenders of Pridnestrovie.

Pridnestrovie experienced the tragic events of November 1990 and September-December 1991, when the Moldovan side carried out three attacks on Dubossary. The large-scale armed aggression of Moldova against the PMR started on June 19, 1992. Despite the decision of the Moldovan parliament a few days earlier on the peaceful settlement of the Pridnestrovian issue, Moldova attacked the peaceful city of Bendery.

The undeclared war claimed the lives of 118 Tiraspol residents, more than 800 Pridnestrovians in 1992. More than 3000 were injured, about 1500 became disabled, it was said at the rally. The memory of the fallen defenders of Pridnestrovie and those who died from wounds in the struggle for the independence of the PMR was honored with a minute of silence.

Agreement was signed in Moscow on the principles of a peaceful settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict on the initiative of the Russian side, on July 21, 1992. Russian peacekeepers entered the PMR as guarantors of peace in the Pridnestrovian land on July 29.

Relatives of the victims Alexander Anatolyevich Kostarev came to the memorial rally together with the defenders. A citizen of Tiraspol volunteered to defend Pridnestrovian at the age of 38. Alexander Anatolyevich tells his children and grandchildren about the events of 1992 so that they know and remember, but this will not happen again.
