Pridnestrovie celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War

09.05.2025

Not just May. Not just Victory Day. The 80th victorious spring. The streets of Pridnestrovian cities are decorated with St. George ribbons and victory banners, schools have been turned into museums, courtyards – into stages for front-line concerts. Pridnestrovie celebrates the anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and says thank you to the heroes whose feat is stronger than time.

The official part of the events on the occasion of the Great Victory Day began early in the morning on the main square of Tiraspol. The Victory Banner, a symbol of the Soviet people's victory over fascism and Nazism, was raised into the sky above the Pridnestrovian capital to the sounds of the Soviet Union anthem performed by the General Staff Orchestra of the PMR Armed Forces.

The Victory Banner is the assault flag of the 150th Order of Kutuzov, 2nd degree, Idritsa Rifle Division, which Soviet soldiers hoisted on the Reichstag building in Berlin in May 1945. An exact copy of the historical banner was donated to Pridnestrovie by the Russian delegation in 2014 as a token of gratitude from descendants – the victorious Soviet soldiers.
