Festive events dedicated to the Day of Cosmonautics are held throughout the republic today. Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Galina Antyufeyeva, Deputy of the PMR Supreme Council Ilona Tyuryaeva and activists of the Obnovlenie (Renewal) Republican Party laid fresh flowers at the portrait sculpture of Yuri Gagarin in the capital. A monument to the cosmonaut who was the first to fly into space was opened in Tiraspol in 1977. Since then, the boulevard, where the bust of Yuri Gagarin is installed, bears his name.
Yuri Gagarin took off on the Vostok satellite ship of the Baikonur cosmodrome 60 years ago, on April 12. Yuri Alekseevich flew around the Earth once, then successfully landed in the Saratov region. Gagarin uttered the phrase "Let's go!" which is now famous all over the world that day, at the start. For the first flight into space, the Soviet cosmonaut was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
The Vice Speaker of the Parliament added that the Republican Party "Renewal", together with the capital's state administration, the State Unitary Enterprise "Post of Pridnestrovie" and with the support of the PMR President, organized a large number of events throughout the republic dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the first manned flight into space. This is all so that the holiday, which was held in compliance with all quarantine restrictions, was bright and remembered by every Pridnestrovian, Galina Antyufeyeva emphasized.
The photo album with the telling title "The Road to the Stars" has been prepared for printing. This is about how PMR cities are connected with the development of astronautics. The circulation of this specialized edition will be 1000 copies. The photo albums will be transferred to all central and local libraries, as well as to museums, so that every Pridnestrovian interested in astronautics can get acquainted with it and learn more about the events of those years.
Last week, the 11-meter colorful banner depicting a Soviet cosmonaut appeared in Tiraspol. The banner was placed on the facade of one of the residential buildings in Sverdlov Street, next to Gagarin Boulevard. Now both adults and children can come to this place to be photographed and once again remember about an event significant for the whole world.
Festive and space music sounded on Gagarin Boulevard until 12:00 today. Everyone could lay flowers at the monument and take a picture at the huge banner.
