Pridnestrovie appealed to Russia on the problem of gas transit, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR Alexander Korshunov told journalists.
The speaker of the parliament of Pridnestrovie explained that the letters were sent to the State Duma, the Federation Council, the Administration of the President of Russia and the Commissioner for Human Rights.
Alexander Korshunov noted that the initiative on the problem of gas transit should also be shown by the Government of Moldova, which can officially conclude a contract for the purchase of the required volume of gas – including for the generation of electricity.
As the News of Pridnestrovie news agency notes, the possibility of stopping gas supplies to the territory of the PMR from January 1, 2025 was discussed at a meeting of the Security Council under the PMR President on December 6. On December 11, the Supreme Council approved the Decree of the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky on the introduction of a state of emergency. The crisis situation with gas supplies to Pridnestrovie arose due to the lack of an agreement on gas transit from January 1, 2025. As Vadim Krasnoselsky noted, neither Russia nor Ukraine want to interfere with gas supplies to Pridnestrovie. There is an unwillingness of the Moldovan authorities to solve the problem that has arisen at the same time. The production of electricity for Moldova depends on gas supplies to Pridnestrovie – 80% of the neighboring country's needs are supplied from Pridnestrovie.
