Pridnestrovie honors the memory of internationalist soldiers

Today is the Day of Remembrance and Glory of Internationalist Soldiers in Pridnestrovie. Commemorative events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan were held in all cities and regions of the republic. Deputies of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in their constituencies took part in them.

Flowers in Slobodzeya were first laid at the monument to the defenders of their native land, and then a solemn meeting was held at the arch of the Glory Memorial. Deputy of the Supreme Council for electoral district No. 21 “Slobodzeya” Pavel Shinkaryuk took part in it. He noted the significance of this date, expressed words of great respect to the internationalist soldiers and thanked the younger generation who are taking up the baton of memory.

“Afghanistan – Pages of Memory” concert was held at the Slobodzeya House of Culture, and a thematic exhibition was opened in the hall after the laying ceremony.

The events in Bendery took place on Heroes Square near the “Black Tulip” memorial sign. The leadership of the state administration and city council, deputies, labor collectives, military personnel, law enforcement officers, social activists and townspeople marched there from Liberation Square. They held portraits of dead and deceased Afghans, natives of Bendery in their hands.

Veterans of the Afghanistan war in Dubossary came to the city Memorial of Military Glory. More than 200 young Dubossary residents passed through the fire of Afghanistan. Three of them died. Many of the Afghan soldiers in 1992, a difficult year for the young republic, stood up for the defense of Pridnestrovie. Four gave their lives for its future. Many Afghans died during peacetime. There are 53 people in the ranks of the Dubossary Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan today.

A flower laying ceremony at the Memorial of Glory took place in Rybnitsa. The Orthodox clergy served a memorial service. There was a concert where local groups performed then songs of those years. “Hero’s Desk” was opened at a school in the village of Plot, Rybnitsa district, by the local authorities and the regional Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. This is in memory of the hero of the war in Afghanistan Yuri Kozhukhar. He never returned home. He died in the line of duty.

A mourning meeting was held at the “Grieving Mother” Memorial Complex in Grigoriopol in memory of those who did not return from Afghanistan. Over 140 people from the Grigoriopol region took part in the Afghan war. Four of them died during an international mission, 28 veterans died in peacetime.

The public organization “Grigoriopol Union of Afghanistan War Veterans” was awarded the Order of Honor on the eve of the memorable date, at a ceremonial meeting in the capital.

The events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan were held in Kamenka. A rally took place, followed by the laying of flowers at the memorial complex at the city cemetery and at the grave of the internationalist warrior Konstantin Kiper. A gala concert of the military-patriotic and Afghan song “Caravan - 2024” was held in the afternoon at the House of Culture of Kamenka.
