Pridnestrovie expresses gratitude for peace

25.07.2024

A rally dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the introduction of peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation into the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was held at the Peace Arch "Blessed are the Peacekeepers". On July 29, 1992, Russian peacekeepers stopped the armed conflict launched by the Republic of Moldova against Pridnestrovie. Together with the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky and the First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov, the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov and his deputy Galina Antyufeeva laid flowers at the Arch as a sign of gratitude to the peacekeepers. The ceremony was attended by officials, military personnel, and public figures.

Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva emphasized that the 32nd anniversary of the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into our republic is an important event, because peace is maintained on the Pridnestrovian land thanks to the peacekeepers.

A week before the introduction of peacekeepers, on July 21, 1992, the Presidents of Russia and Moldova signed an agreement in Moscow on the principles of peaceful settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict. A Joint Control Commission was created within the framework of this document, which included representatives of Russia, Moldova, and Pridnestrovie. The first decision of the JCC was to introduce peacekeepers into the Security Zone. A trilateral peacekeeping mission under the auspices of Russia has been working on the Dniester for 32 years now.

"Russian peacekeepers who stopped the war here, Russian peacekeepers saved hundreds, thousands, and maybe tens of thousands of lives that were at risk if the conflict developed. We see very well what a developing conflict is. Russian peacekeepers stopped the war, established peace, and gave a future to the negotiation process. Other than negative emotions or outright lies there has been nothing evidential to cast doubt on the peacekeeping mission of the Russian Federation, the joint peacekeeping operation for 32 years. Let me remind you that Pridnestrovian and Moldovan peacekeepers are participating in the peacekeeping operation in addition to Russian military personnel. The mechanisms of this peacekeeping operation are working effectively", noted the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov with his wife arrived at the event in Pridnestrovie. The Ambassador emphasized that it has been possible to maintain peace and effectively implement the tasks formulated in 1992 over the 32 years of the mission's work.

Pridnestrovians laid flowers on the eve of the 32nd anniversary of the introduction of peacekeeping forces at the memorial sign "Dove of Peace" at the traffic militia post in Bendery and at the Memorial of Memory and Sorrow, where the names of residents of Bendery who died in 1992 are immortalized. Bendery residents will come here again to honor the memory of the defenders on August 1.
