Presidential elections in South Ossetia

Pridnestrovian delegation included: CEC member Alexander Shevchenko, as well as deputies of the Supreme Council Vitaly Kalin and Vadim Kravchuk. On the eve the Pridnestrovian delegation visited the Central Executive Committee of the Republic of South Ossetia, where it received the relevant certificates of international observers. Representatives of Pridnestrovie immediately visited the polling station in one of the polyclinics, talked to the head of precinct election commission.

On the voting day, Representatives of Pridnestrovie visited constituencies not only in Tskhinvali, but also in other regions of the republic.

Three candidates fought for the post of the head of the: current president Leonid Tibilov, chairman of parliament Anatoly Bibilov and KGB officer Alan Gagloev. Totally 77 polling stations were opened, five of them on the territory of Russia. According to the CEC, in the republic there are 32,736 thousands of registered voters. According to the exit poll, the current head of state Leonid Tibilov is gaining 45.8%, its main competitor, parliament speaker Anatoly Bibilov - 36.9%.

There was a referendum in South Ossetia on renaming the republic to the State of Alania. According to exit poll, the majority of citizens of South Ossetia voted to introduce the equivalent name of the State of Alania. It is noted that the initiative was supported by 81.5% of voters who took part in the voting, against - 18.5%.
