The Holiday of Defenders of the Fatherland

A solemn meeting and a festive concert were held at the Palace of the Republic on the eve of the 23rd of February. Congratulations on the Day of the Defender of the Fatherland were accepted by military personnel, veterans of the Armed Forces of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, defenders of Pridnestrovie, and internationalists.

The event was attended by President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov, Chairman of the Committee on Education and Public Associations Igor Buga, the leadership of the government, ministries and departments of the republic. The distinguished servicemen were awarded state awards.

Turning to the audience, the Minister of Defense of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Oleg Obruchkov noted that the day of the defender of the Fatherland is a holiday that will always be associated with the exploits of older generations in folk memory that have made an invaluable contribution to the defense of the homeland with their courage and courage of the glorious pages in history.

The memory of the defenders who died in different years during the defense of the Fatherland, those present honored with a minute of silence.

The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic noted the role of the defenders of Pridnestrovie, who during the armed aggression of Moldova defended their right to live, speak their native languages, read books in any language.

The task of any state is to educate youth love for their homeland, noted the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Public Associations Igor Buga in an interview with the press service of the Supreme Council. The parliamentarian called on February 23 to the holiday of those who served in the army, and emphasized the need to maintain history for subsequent generations.

Representatives of the movement organized an exhibition in the lobby of the Palace of the Republic dedicated to the Day of the Defender of the Fatherland. It was represented by weapons of various times, starting from the 17th century and ending with modernity –more than 20 exhibits. Among them, the machine gun of Degtyarev’s model of 1927 deserves attention. This weapon was widely used by Soviet soldiers to protect their homeland in the Great Patriotic War.

Activists of movement always conduct courage lessons in the schools of the republic in the spring of liberation. Volunteers are engaged in various projects in addition. Now the movement "The Heirs of Victories" is completing the search work in the places of battles of the Great Patriotic War, where the missing warriors-liberators may be missing. Approximately 200 German mines were found recently in parking lots during such search work.

The reinterment ceremony will be held at the capital's memorial of fame after the search for missing Soviet soldiers will end. They plan to hold a memorable event in April in honor of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Tiraspol from the Nazi invaders, said the head of the movement, the Supreme Council Deputy Igor Buga.
