Current legislation allows during compulsory military service to continue studying in the chosen specialty. Conscripted military personnel who have switched to part-time or evening study are provided with study leave for the period of the session. However, not all specialties have a related profile with part-time or part-time education.
There are 49 such specialties at bachelor’s and specialty levels at Pridnestrovian State University now. Deputies of the Legislation Committee proposed to provide them with the opportunity to study according to an individual curriculum to prevent students from having to go on academic leave. Galina Antyufeyeva, Gregory Dyachenko and Oleg Petrik decided to make appropriate changes to the laws “On Education”, “On Higher and Postgraduate Professional Education” and “On the Status of Military Personnel”. The legislations were considered at the plenary meeting of the Supreme Council in the first reading.
The responsible committee, the Committee on Legislation, spoke in support of these legislative initiatives in the course of its meeting earlier. Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council, head of the Committee on Legislation Galina Antyufeyeva reported this to parliamentarians.
Deputies of the Supreme Council adopted the proposed legislations to amend 3 relevant laws in the first reading. The Legislation Committee will prepare them for consideration in the second final reading. If new norms are adopted, all conscript students will have equal rights to continue their education during the period of service.
