Law-in-draft, which proposes to consolidate the right to preferential travel on public transport for children, schoolchildren and students in the law on the republican budget for 2024 was adopted in the first reading. These benefits are are now in the Decree of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic dated February 27, 2015 Number 44 “On the establishment of preferential tariffs in public transport for certain categories of citizens”.
The authors of the legislative initiative are deputies of the parliamentary Committee on Social Policy, Healthcare, Labor, Family and Childhood Issues Sergei Cheban, Vladimir Pelin and Ilona Tyuryaeva. Thus, it is proposed to establish at the legislative level the standards according to which children under 7 years old, Suvorov military college pupils and cadets can ride public transport for free throughout the year.
The law will prescribe a discount on public transport fares for the academic year for schoolchildren, university students, technical schools and colleges, as well as cadets and students of the Tiraspol Law Institute named after Kutuzov of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The discount on travel on urban and suburban routes is 50 percent, on intercity routes – 25 percent.
A discount of 50 percent for travel on an international route for children from 5 to 10 years old (with the right to occupy a separate seat) will be enshrined in the law on the republican budget for 2024.
Parliamentarians unanimously supported in the course of the plenary session the legislative initiative of their colleagues deputies. Work on the law-in-draft on introducing amendments and additions to the PMR Law “On the Republican Budget for 2024”, taking into account all the comments and proposals made at the plenary meeting, will continue in the second reading.
As the authors of the law-in-draft said, the need to fix travel benefits for certain categories of citizens at the legislative level was adopted at a working meeting of representatives of the Supreme Council and the Government for the first time. All existing travel benefits for children, schoolchildren and students in the republic will remain, the authors of the law-in-draft noted. These benefits will be transferred to the relevant laws in the future. A similar decision regarding catering in schools was made previously.
