The Supreme Council increased from 3 to 4 years the age of a child who can be near suspected, accused or convicted mother. Amendments to the law “On the detention of suspects and accused of crimes” and to the Criminal Executive Code of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic were adopted in the second final reading. The legislations were initiated by deputies of the Committee on Legislation, Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens Galina Antyufeyeva, Gregory Dyachenko and Oleg Petrik based on appeals, including from those convicted.
Galina Antyufeeva added that the adopted changes will motivate a convicted woman with a minor child to reform.
The amendments prepared by the relevant parliamentary committee were supported at the plenary meeting. They give the right to additional visits with a child under 14 years of age to suspects and accused persons, already provided for by the Criminal Executive Code for convicted persons. According to the law “On the detention of suspects and accused of committing crimes”, suspects and accused have the right to 2 visits per month with relatives. Deputies prescribed the opportunity for a suspected or accused woman, as well as a man, if he is the only parent, to receive up to 2 additional visits per month on weekends and holidays with a child under 14 years of age.
The amendments to the law “On the detention of suspects and accused of crimes” and to the Criminal Executive Code adopted by the Supreme Council will come into force the next day after signing by the President and official publication.
