The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted and proclaimed by resolution 217 A (III) of the United Nations General Assembly 75 years ago, on December 10, 1948. Developed by representatives from all regions of the world with different legal and cultural backgrounds it established the need to protect fundamental human rights throughout the world for the first time.
The anniversary XV Republican scientific and practical conference started today at Pridnestrovian State University on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Students, teachers and representatives of government authorities of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic gathered in the assembly hall of the main building of Pridnestrovian State University.
The conference opening was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council, Head of the Committee on Legislation, Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens Galina Antyufeyeva. The Vice-Speaker of the Parliament announced a welcoming address from the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov, which noted commitment of Pridnestrovie to international legal norms in the field of human rights.
Vice-speaker Galina Antyufeeva noted that such conferences and round tables held on the basis of the Pridnestrovian State University help not only to identify current problems, but also to develop new mechanisms for solving them and introduce them into the current Pridnestrovian legislation.
The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vyacheslav Kosinsky told those present about the history of the development of human rights and the features of the development and adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the difficult post-war period.
They talked at the conference about the law of peace – a new branch of public law, the foundations of which are aimed at protecting peace as the highest value and are associated with the implementation of the right to peace, with the mechanism for protecting peace and security. Director of the Peacemaking Center, director of the Institute of Public Administration and Social Sciences and Humanities, Doctor of Sociological Sciences Elena Bobkova noted the particular relevance of this topic for Pridnestrovie.
Elena Bobkova noted in her speech that the creation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was a response to violations of human rights, including the right to peace and security.
The XV Republican Scientific and Practical Conference, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, will last until December 15. The program includes plenary sessions, round tables and practical seminars. Representatives of government bodies of the republic will take part in it in addition to teachers and students of Pridnestrovian State University.
