Human rights through the eyes of the youth

An essay contest for the first time in the republic was held among students “Human Rights through the Eyes of the Youth”. The winners and participants were awarded by Speaker Alexander Shcherba, Vice Speaker Galina Antyufeyeva, parliamentarian Oleg Belyakov.

Today is Human Rights Day. The history of the holiday dates back to 1948, when the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In honor of the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the international act, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the PMR, Vyacheslav Kosinsky, initiated the republican contest “Human Rights through the Eyes of Youth”. Pupils of the senior classes of the Tiraspol Suvorov Military School, the Republican Cadet Boarding School named after Prince Potemkin-Tavrichesky and schools of the republic took part in it. The guys presented the work in the form of an essay. It could be prepared in one of the three state languages. The competition was held in three stages, and at the final 17 best works were selected. The finalists were chosen by a competent jury from among teachers of history and social studies, employees of the Ministry of Education. Awarding of the winners took place in the House of Officers.

It was noted during the event that the observance of human rights is facing today with a number of difficulties. The participants of the competition paid attention to this issue.

Oleg Belyakov, Deputy of the Supreme Council, worked for many years in the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights. According to the parliamentarian, those who daily protect the rights of people deserve respect.

Karina Stulova, 10th grade student of the Tiraspol Humanitarian-Mathematical Gymnasium is among the winners. Her father, Vladimir Stulov, was a prominent human rights activist in the republic. He is the author of many books and manuals on the topic of the protection of human rights.
