The PMR archivists celebrate their professional holiday on the 1st of June. A ceremonial meeting was held on the eve of the date and in honor of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the PMR archival service in the Palace of the Republic. The congratulations were preceded by a special cancellation of an envelope with a stamp depicting the logo of the State Service for Documentation and Archives Management of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
The head of the State Service Zinaida Todorashko said that the Central Archival Administration of the MASSR was created on August 1, 1925. The archives collected the files of the district and volost authorities a year later. The Central Historical Archive of the MASSR was created in the capital of the MASSR, in the city of Balta. It included all historical funds of the region for the period of the Russian Empire. The state archives began to be staffed with documents of Soviet institutions, enterprises and organizations.
The main task of the archival service is to preserve documents for future generations. After all, it was noted at the ceremonial meeting one becomes acquainted with history through documents. The management body for archival affairs of the republic was created by the Resolution of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian MSSR of May 6, 1991. The goal is state regulation of the development of archival affairs of the PMSSR, determining the prospects for its development, centralized registration of documents and control over ensuring their safety.
There are over 2 million documents for 1823, 1841-2024 on the state register. Archival certificates, extracts and copies of documents of the state archives of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic have legal force in the legal field of all states of the world, the State Service noted.
The departmental archive is also maintained in the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The parliament stores documents on the activities of the legislative body since 1990, including an archive of photo and video materials.
Many employees of the relevant State Service were awarded medals, certificates of the President and letters of thanks for their contribution to the development of the republic's archival activities from the Chairman of the Supreme Council.
The Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov sent a welcoming address on the occasion of the professional holiday and the 100th anniversary of the formation of the State Archival Service of Pridnestrovie. The speaker of the parliament emphasized the role of archivists in preserving a huge array of documents reflecting the history and culture of our republic.
A new building of the State Archives of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was opened in Tiraspol in August last year. The head of the State Service Zinaida Todorashko called this event an important achievement in the work.
Work on archival filling continues, and conditions for work are gradually being created inside the premises of the new building.
The State Service for Documentation and Archives Management of the PMR joined the All-Russian project "No Statute of Limitations" in 2021. The result of 4 years of work by historians and archivists was the presentation of the book "Without a Statute of Limitations: Pridnestrovie". The publication tells the truth about the years of German-Romanian occupation during the Great Patriotic War.
