The procedure for conducting anti-corruption checks against officials will be clarified

26.04.2023

Deputies of the Supreme Council in the second final reading supported a package of legislations that will give the President new powers in the combating corruption. The PMR President will have the opportunity to approve the procedure for conducting checks on officials. The norms apply to those who hold public office, public service positions. They will find out during such inspections whether they comply with the current anti-corruption prohibitions and restrictions, whether they provide all the necessary information about their income, property, property obligations, as well as the income of their spouse and minor children. There is no clear procedure for verifying such information according to the official representative of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic today. This legal gap will be eliminated.

The list of officials against whom an inspection may be initiated by decision of the President will also expand. The President will be able to determine the list of persons who, in order to conduct inspections, will be able to request the necessary information from banks and law enforcement agencies.

Changes will be made immediately to three legislations – "On Combating Corruption", "On Investigative Activities in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" and "On Banks and Banking Activities in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic". The new norms will come into effect 60 days after signing and official publication. The relevant Decrees of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic will be prepared during this time. They will establish a clear procedure for conducting inspections in relation to the observance by officials of the norms of anti-corruption legislation.
