The Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Russian Federation will request information from the Russian Foreign Ministry on what measures are being taken to solve the problems of residents of Pridnestrovie when obtaining Russian citizenship and renewing Russian passports. This instruction was given by State Duma deputies on the basis of appeal by Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, at an extraordinary plenary session of the State Duma. It was connected with the promulgation of the Decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on the right of citizens of Ukraine to acquire Russian citizenship under the most simplified procedure.

The State Duma is waiting for information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on immediate measures to eliminate existing problems, to strengthen the staffing of the field consular service point in Tiraspol of the Embassy of the Russian Federation. Such an instruction was given by the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin.

Konstantin Zatulin talked on this issue with the first President of Pridnestrovie, Igor Smirnov, and with the supervising Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Andrey Rudenko the day before, on the 14th of July. The problem of consular services for Russian citizens in Pridnestrovie was raised by members of the Consultative Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies. This advisory body, under the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, under the leadership of Igor Smirnov, held a meeting in the Supreme Council on July 7, at which it was decided to send a statement to the leadership of the Russian Federation, as well as Russian parties, with a request to resolve the issue that is urgent for Pridnestrovians.

The Chairman of the Public Chamber of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Director of the branch of the Institute of CIS Countries in Tiraspol Vladimir Ladunkin informed Konstantin Zatulin about the adoption by the Consultative Assembly of an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the issue of replacing expired Russian passports for Russian citizens living in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, at the request of the First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov.
