Amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure

The initiative of the Speaker of the Parliament Alexander Korshunov to amend the PMR Criminal Procedure Code was considered by deputies. The proposed law-in-draft is aimed at simplifying the procedure for pronouncing sentences in criminal cases. According to the new law-in-draft, the court will announce only the introductory and operative parts of the verdict. This will reduce the time spent on the announcement of the verdict and simplify the process of legal proceedings. According to Article 290 of the PMR Code of Criminal Procedure, after signing the verdict, the court returns to the courtroom and the presiding judge pronounces the verdict. All those present in the courtroom listen to the verdict standing not excluding judges.

The author of the law-in-draft emphasized in his speech that this provision is in the legislation of the Russian Federation, the law-in-draft is useful, it does not violate any procedural norms, moreover, proposes to increase the time limit for a cassation appeal from 7 to 15 days from the date of pronouncement of the verdict. The deputies had questions and comments on the law-in-draft on amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure. They were discussed. The Committee on Legislation, Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens recommended for adoption in the first reading.

The law-in-draft was adopted in the first reading, work on it will continue.
