Candles of memory about the Great Patriotic War were lighted today at the Capital Memorial of Glory. The action began exactly at 4 am in memory of one of the saddest dates in the history of Russia - the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In the pre-dawn silence - Levitan's voice: "Attention," says Moscow... "

The Great Patriotic War began June 22, 1941 - the war of the Soviet people against the Nazi invaders. The heavy, bloody war lasted 1,418 days and nights. The general human losses of the Soviet side during the war amounted to 26 million people. Among them there are more than 130 thousand Pridnestrovians. Three years of occupation of our region, heavy losses, death and destruction ... The Great Patriotic War has left its mark in almost every home. Thousands of soldiers are buried in the mass graves of Pridnestrovian land, thousands are unknown and missing. Today veterans of the Great Patriotic War, prisoners of concentration camps, children of war, back workers, citizens, leadership of the republic, and deputies of the Supreme Council and members of the government laid flowers at the Memorial of Glory in memory of the heroic deed of the Soviet people and liberators.

Lyudmila Ignatova came to the Memorial of Glory with her granddaughter Anya. She says she just could not help coming. Her parents fought, reached Berlin.

A moment of silence ... At the eternal fire, the memorable dates "1941-1945" are shone with bright lights of candles. The candles of memory in the hands of the participants of the action, the night sky cuts the beam of the searchlight, carnations are aroused on the marble slabs, life-affirming, light music flows over the memorial and the gray Dniester ... Grateful Tiraspolians honor the memory of those who liberated our city and republic, Their lives.
