The Letter to the President of Russia

29.12.2021

A video conference was held at the PSU Contact Center for Cooperation with Rossotrudnichestvo. It was dedicated to a letter addressed to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin that was prepared by the Union of Russian Communities of Pridnestrovie.

Representatives of Russian communities asked the President of the Russian Federation to give instructions to approve a simplified mechanism for obtaining Russian citizenship by all residents of Pridnestrovie, regardless of the date of birth and the forced possession of citizenship of another state.

In addition, the letter to the Russian president says that over the past two years, an acute humanitarian problem has arisen in Pridnestrovie, connected with malfunctions in the mechanism of consular services for Russian citizens living in Pridnestrovie. The Consular Office of the Russian Embassy did not work for more than a year due to the pandemic. In this regard, a huge queue of tens of thousands of citizens with expired foreign passports was formed. However, they cannot replace documents within the time frame established by the law of the Russian Federation, since the online registration mechanism does not allow everyone to be included in the queue. Tens of thousands of Russian citizens have become absolutely restricted to travel abroad for this reason. Among them there are the PMR citizens who receive a Russian pension. Due to expired passports of the Russian Federation, they are under the threat of stopping the accrual of their pensions in the coming 2022.

The letter to the President of the Russian Federation speaks of the need to increase the staff of the consular service point in Tiraspol in order to quickly solve the problem with a queue of thousands of citizens with expired passports. Representatives of Russian communities asked to endow the consular post in Tiraspol with full functionality for the performance of all consular tasks and duties, including the registration and issuance of registry office documents, certificates and other documents to citizens of the Russian Federation directly at the point at its location.

Addressing the participants of the video conference, Vice-Speaker Galina Antyufeeva emphasized that Russia provides great support to compatriots, assists in the implementation of significant projects in education, culture and healthcare. These days, law-in-draft "On Citizenship" was submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

The participants of the online meeting expressed confidence that the appeal to Vladimir Putin will not remain unanswered, and the questions raised will be resolved in the near future. The appeal was signed by the chairmen of the Russian communities from all the towns of Pridnestrovie.

At the end of the dialogue, Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva congratulated everyone on the upcoming New Year and wished 2022 to be peaceful and happy, prosperous and filled with joy.
