VIII Christmas parliamentary meetings were opened in Moscow

The VIII Christmas parliamentary meetings were opened in the capital of Russia at the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly. This is a part of the XXVIII International Christmas Educational Readings on the theme "Great Victory: Heritage and Heirs".

The event is attended by Russian parliamentarians, representatives of various ministries and departments of the Russian Federation, the Government of Moscow, representatives of state authorities and public organizations, all dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church, and educational institutions. At the invitation of Russian colleagues, a Pridnestrovian delegation arrived in Moscow. It consists of: Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, Deputies Oleg Vasilaty and Ruslan Gareev, Head of the CEC Elena Gorodetskaya.

First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Nikolai Fedorov announced the greeting of the Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko at the opening ceremony of the readings at the State Kremlin Palace.

The document notes that in 2020, declared the Year of Remembrance and Glory in Russia, the topic of readings is especially relevant. The memory of the Victory, of its high price, of feats and sacrifices is the most important factor in the formation of a common civic identity. It unites people of different ages, faiths, nationalities, social status. Nikolai Fedorov emphasized that his generation had a special share - to study the history of the Great Patriotic War not so much from textbooks as from the stories of front-line fathers.

The Most Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill addressed the participants in the opening ceremony of the XXVIII International Christmas Educational Readings "The Great Victory: Heritage and Heirs" The ceremony was also attended by First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Alexei Gromov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Alexander Zhukov, Minister of the Interior Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova, deputy Moscow Mayor Alexander Gorbenko.

Today, in the expanded program of events of the Christmas parliamentary meetings, the plenary session, the round-table meetings "Spiritual, moral and patriotic education of youth in the light of the Great Victory", "The Second World War in the humanitarian dimension: the experience of past years and the present", etc. The round tables are accepted participation of Pridnestrovian parliamentarians.

This day, the Federation Council hosts an exhibition of children's drawings “The Beauty of God’s Peace” and photo exhibitions reflecting the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Great Patriotic War.
