During the visit to Paris, an official delegation of Pridnestrovie consisting of the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Vitaly Ignatyev, took part in the session of the special subcommittee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Conflicts on the problems of the settlement of the conflict between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova.
The discussions were also attended by the special representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office in 2017, Wolf Dietrich Heim, as well as Deputy Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia, for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and the OSCE of the European External Action Service, Luc Devin, and others.
In the course of the meeting, the head of the republic's legislature Alexander Shcherba made a report.
Alexander Shcherba at the parliamentary site of the Council of Europe especially noted the unique nature of the international peacekeeping operation, which ensured the equal participation of three peacekeeping contingents - from Russia, Moldova and Pridnestrovie.
According to Alexander Shcherba, the constant disregard of the interests of the Pridnestrovians by the Moldovan authorities led to a logical reaction - the proclamation of independence of Pridnestrovie in the early 1990s and the holding of a nationwide referendum September 17, 2006. More than 97% of its participants supported the policy of independence of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
The results of the discussions held in the PACE on the problems of the settlement of the conflict between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova were summed up by the chairperson.
