Memorial events in honor of the 33rd anniversary of the formation of the People's Militia were held throughout the republic on March 17.
Flowers were laid in Bendery, at the Memorial of Memory and Sorrow by the deputy chairman of the city Council of People's Deputies Alexander Kolesnichenko, deputy head of the state administration Oksana Kotelya, former militiamen, servicemen of the peacekeeping contingent, representatives of public organizations, and the Renewal party.
Civil-paramilitary units played a decisive role in the struggle of the Pridnestrovian people for independence during the armed aggression of Moldova. They operated in all cities and districts of the republic. The largest ones, numbering up to 3 thousand people, defended the cities of Bender and Dubossary. More than 14 thousand militiamen were awarded state awards for their courage, the press service of the Renewal Republican Party writes.
The rally at the Memorial of Military Glory in Dubossary was attended by the Chairman of the Council of People's Deputies Alexander Kolomytsev, Deputy Head of the State Administration Evgeny Dabizha, Head of the District Department of Internal Affairs Peter Pasha, defenders of the republic, representatives of the headquarters of the People's Militia, employees of enterprises and organizations, schoolchildren and residents of Dubossary.
Alexander Belik together with other comrades blocked the Poltava Bridge to prevent the entry of Moldovan military formations into the city. He defended the republic in the fortified area near the hydroelectric power station.
The rally participants honored the memory of the fallen defenders of the republic with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the memorial plaques, the official website of the city of Dubossary reports.
Deputy of the Supreme Council for constituency No. 21 "Slobodzeya" Pavel Shinkaryuk, Chairperson of the Council of People's Deputies of the city and district Tatyana Zalevskaya, the leadership of the state administration, district settlements, veteran militia members and representatives of the current headquarters of the People's Militia, defenders of Pridnestrovie, representatives of the public, activists of "Renewal" and the youth wing of the party took part in the rally in Slobodzeya.
Speaking to those gathered, the head of the district state administration Vasily Tishchenko emphasized that the People's Militia is a symbol of patriotism, dedication and unbending will of the Pridnestrovian people.
Deputy of the Supreme Council Pavel Shinkaryuk emphasized that March 17, 1992 went down in the history of Pridnestrovie as the day of unity of the people, because you can defeat the army, but you cannot defeat the people. The parliamentarian assured those present that the younger generation of Pridnestrovians understands the full significance of the events of that time and will do everything possible to preserve the true history.
Fresh flowers were laid at the obelisk to the defenders of Pridnestrovie, the monument to the chief of staff of the People's Militia Alexander Gusar, who died tragically in 1992, and the memorial plaque to the chairman of the Slobodzeya District Executive Committee and the Council of People's Deputies Nikolai Ostapenko.
The rally dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the formation of the People's Militia of the PMR was traditionally held in Grigoriopol. At the "Grieving Mother" memorial complex, participants honored the memory of the fallen defenders with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the memorial signs. Children recited poems about the tragic and heroic events of 1992.
Representatives of the state administration, the Council of People's Deputies of the city and district, the Union of Defenders of Pridnestrovie, the Union of Women, municipal institutions, defenders of the republic and citizens took part in the rally. Chairman of the Council of People's Deputies of the Grigoriopol district and the city of Grigoriopol Andrei Kovtun noted that brave and selfless people joined the ranks of the militia, 232 of whom died, more than 200 were wounded, and 12 people went missing in 1992.
The People's Militia units were formed in Kamenka in today's tax inspection building. Participants in the commemorative events laid fresh flowers at the memorial plaque installed on this already historical building.
Defender Gennady Glazunov was one of the first to enlist in the militia, the First Pridnestrovian TV Channel reports. He guarded important city facilities and fought in Kochiery. 22 militiamen from Rybnitsa died in 1992. At the city's Glory Memorial, their memory was honored with a minute of silence and flowers were laid. Rybnitsa residents made a car rally after the memorial events through the city in memory of the feat of Rybnitsa defenders during the years of Moldova's military aggression against the Pridnestrovian people.
A round table was held at the Rybnitsa Children's and Youth Creativity Center. A documentary film was shown as part of the meeting, which collected archival video recordings of the 1992 conflict, materials, documents and memories of participants and eyewitnesses of those events. The militiamen shared their personal experiences with schoolchildren, talked about the difficulties and heroism they encountered in the process of defending the Motherland. The veterans were awarded certificates and letters of gratitude for heroism and courage. The event ended with creative performances by young army members, the Rybnitsa State Administration Telegram channel reports.
