The memory of the defenders of Pridnestrovie who died on December 13, 1991 was honored in the city of Dubossary. The OPON (special police squad) of Moldova made a third attempt to capture the city on this day 32 years ago.
Residents of Dubossary and Rybnitsa gather every year near the stele erected in memory of the defenders of Pridnestrovie who died on December 13, 1991 to remember the heroes.
According to eyewitnesses, Moldovan OPON (special police squad) soldiers in the uniform of guardsmen attacked a post on the Dubossary Bridge and a traffic militia post at the exit from the Lunga microdistrict at 6 a.m. on December 13, 1991.
16 guardsmen were injured as a result of the planned operation of the Moldovan security forces. Three persons died – deputy commander of the Rybnitsa detachment of the Republican Guard Vladimir Shcherbaty, detachment fighter Alexander Patergin and traffic inspector of the State Traffic Inspectorate Dubossary Yuri Tsurkan, who died in the hospital from a fatal wound.
Flowers were laid at the stele in memory of the defenders of Dubossary by the heads of city state administrations, representatives of the city district council, deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Boris German, the leadership of the Dubossary District Department of Internal Affairs, defenders of Pridnestrovie, relatives and friends of the victims, representatives of public organizations and schoolchildren.
