The name of Vasily Nikitovich Yakovlev is inextricably linked with the origins of the Pridnestrovian statehood, the development of legal science and the affirmation of the principles of legality and justice. In memory of the outstanding scientist, first rector and statesman, the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference "Yakovlev Readings" was held at Pridnestrovian State University named after Taras Shevchenko.
Vasily Yakovlev made a significant contribution to the development of the Pridnestrovian State University and the formation of the scientific school of law. He actively defended the rights of the multinational people of Pridnestrovie as a statesman, was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the first convocation, and became one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence and the first Constitution of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
This year, the topic of the conference is "Legal Problems of Ensuring National Security in the Context of Modern Challenges". The participants were deputies of the Supreme Council of the PMR, scientists, practicing lawyers, teachers and students.
Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, Budget and Finance of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Kravchuk read a welcoming address on behalf of Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Galina Antyufeeva at the opening of the conference.
The university annually holds "Yakovlev Readings" in memory of Vasily Yakovlev, his contribution to the creation of the republic and the development of PSU. This tradition was established after his death in November 2013. Every year the number of conference participants grows. The faculty of PSU delivers reports, experts and representatives of Russian universities participate online.
The conference included reports on the legal aspects of ensuring national security, the development of legislation, international cooperation and modern challenges in the legal sphere. The participants exchanged scientific ideas and proposals for improving the legal framework of the state.
The "Yakovlev Readings" are held over two days April 29 and 30 including work in sections, practical seminars and round tables.
