The Open Dialogue

13.04.2017

Regular meeting in an international format took place at the parliamentary platform. This time the guest of the legislature was Deputy Head of the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the RM Neil Martin. The Pridnestrovian side was represented in the negotiations by the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba, vice speaker of parliament, head of the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and international relations Galina Antyufeeva.

The Speaker of the Parliament Alexander Shcherba assured the British diplomat that the Pridnestrovian side always, in any circumstances remains open to dialogue, is ready to discuss various topics of interest to the international community.

In the course of the conversation with deputies the Deputy Head of the British diplomatic mission raised important for us issue of the state of the republic's economy. In this regard, the parties exchanged views on the threats that the intention of Moldova and Ukraine establish joint posts in Cuchurgan. Parliamentarians expressed concern about this and noted effectiveness of the EUBAM cross-border trade mission, which has been monitoring for more than ten years at the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian and Moldo-Ukrainian borders. Participants of the negotiations from PMR suppose that the discussion of this issue should be raised to a higher level - the "5 + 2" negotiation platform, and not be limited to bilateral decisions of Moldova and Ukraine to the detriment of Pridnestrovie and its citizens.

In the course of the dialogue with the people's deputies, the British representative inquired about the results of the hearings held April 4 at the Supreme Council and, in particular, one of the points of the final resolution requesting the leadership of Russia to recognize the documents issued by Pridnestrovian authorities. In the opinion of members of our delegation, Russia, as a guarantor country of the negotiation process, is able to do this, since 2001 the Presidents of Pridnestrovie and Moldova signed a protocol on mutual recognition of documents (certificates, diplomas, driving licenses, certificates of registration of vehicles), issued by authorized representatives of the parties.

At the end of the meeting, the diplomat assured that the requests of Pridnestrovian side will be analyzed, and leaders of Moldova will be informed in the position of the legislators.
