The Operation on the Dniester is a peacekeeping model

International online conference "Peacekeeping Operation on the Dniester: a quarter century of stability and security" is held in the capital of the republic. On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the Russian Federation peacekeeping forces in Pridnestrovie, its participants are discussing aspects of the implementation of the peacekeeping operation, the importance of its preservation, and the role of peacekeeping forces in the maintenance of peace and security in Pridnestrovie. In the course of the discussion panel, the special representative of the President of PMR on issues of interaction with Ukraine, Vladimir Yastrebchak made a report. Speaking about the peculiarities of the unique tripartite mechanism of peacekeeping on the Dniester, Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev drew attention to a number of aspects.

As part of the event, discussions were held with online of Russian experts. The first was the senior lecturer of the department of foreign regional studies and foreign policy of the RSUH, the expert of the Russian Council for International Affairs and the Gorchakov Foundation Sergei Markedonov. He recalled that there were two parallel peacekeeping operations - in South Ossetia and Pridnestrovie in 1992. July 21, 1992, an agreement was signed in Moscow on the principles of the settlement of an armed conflict.

According to Sergey Markedonov, for 25 years since the deployment of the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester, there have been no military exacerbations. This made it possible to block arising incidents, to negotiate, to establish economic and humanitarian relations. The Russian political scientist is convinced: the rejection of the current format is fraught with serious consequences.

On the other side of the screen, a prominent Pridnestrovian politician, the first Chairman of the Supreme Council Grigory Marakutsa, former vice-president of the republic Alexander Karaman, Russian experts, followed the discussion panel. They also took part in the discussion and expressed their point of view in the afternoon.

The forum participants discussed the draft resolution of the international online conference. The document emphasizes the importance of the peacekeeping mission on the Dniester, the need to preserve the existing format until the final, fair peaceful settlement of the relationship between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.
