The International Day of Older Persons was proclaimed the 45th session of the UN General Assembly in 1991. The holiday has been celebrated in our republic since September 1992. Annually October 1 the merits of the representatives of the older generation are honored.
Members of the Union of Veterans of War, Labor and Armed Forces gathered in the small hall of the Palace of the Republic. The initiators were congratulated by Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva, deputies Ilona Tyuryayeva and Andrei Safonov, head of the Government Alexander Martynov.
One of the largest and most authoritative organizations of the republic, the Union of War, Labor and Armed Forces veterans counts more than 5,000 members. Chairman of the organization Yury Ilyashenko summed up the work to improve the lives of veterans. He noted that much success could be achieved through assistance provided by the country's leadership, legislators
Participants in the solemn meeting paid tribute to the memory of the deceased members of veteran organizations. A delegation was sent to lay flowers to the Memorial of Glory.
Andrey Safonov, Deputy of the Supreme Council, joined the congratulations, wishing all the veterans good health, warmth, vitality and optimism. The welcome address and congratulations from the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba was adopted by the deputy Ilona Tyuryayeva. Particularly distinguished members of the Union of Veterans of War, Labor and Armed Forces, parliamentarians presented awards to the Supreme Council.
