To ensure the legitimacy of elections

03.09.2015

The election campaign to the Supreme and local councils of people's deputies was launched in the republic from September 3. Let’s remember that a single day of voting will be held for the first time in the republic on 29 November. This decision was taken by the Supreme Council in November last year. Toward the close of the spring session of the Supreme Council the regulation dated July 9 approved the scheme of education and electoral boundaries.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission Elena Gorodetskaya at the press conference informed about the preparation for the elections. A large volume of preparatory work was conducted in a short period of time. In particular, the district election commissions received documents from candidates, signed an agreement on cooperation with the Central Election Commission of Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh.

Answering journalists' questions, Elena Gorodetskaya emphasized the importance of the separation of the process of the Central Election Commission moving (in accordance with the order of the Government) to another building and the organization of elections. This is explained by the presence of technical difficulties. In this regard, the Central Election Commission appealed this order in court. The head of the Central Election Commission expressed hope that as a result of consideration of the matter by the court to move the terms are changed.

Please note that at the beginning of the week the members of the Supreme Council got acquainted with the request to the head of the CEC to assist in resolving this situation. It was decided to appeal to the Prime Minister with a request for cancellation of the order before the end of the election campaign. The same day the letter was sent to the Prime Minister.

Currently, the CEC received scheme of electoral districts from the local council. Forms of voting ballots are agreed and approved. They differ in shape and color depending on the type of elections. According to the deputy head of the CEC Ruslan Chaban, the combination of elections will increase voter turnout, hence the legitimacy of the elections.
