On the role of the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie

The uniqueness of the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester will be studied at the Pridnestrovian State University. It is planned on the basis of the Institute of Public Administration to open a center that will study all issues related to the conduct of this operation. This was announced by PSU Rector Vladislav Sokolov at the international scientific and practical conference that took place today at the University's Cultural and Educational Center.

Alexander Andreev, co-chairman of the JCC from the Russian Federation called useful and timely initiative the creation of the center for the study of peacekeeping.

The international scientific and practical conference is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the peacekeeping operation. Its organizers are representatives of the PMR delegation in the Joint Control Commission, the Ministry of Defense, PSU. July 29 is the day of the entry of Russian peacekeeping forces into the territory of Pridnestrovie, and this Sunday, May 29, is the International Day of Peacekeepers.

The event was attended on behalf of the Parliament by Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council, Chairman of the Committee on Legislation, Law Enforcement, Defense, Security, Peacekeeping, Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens Galina Antyufeeva and Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Public Associations and Mass Media Andrey Safonov. Ministers, diplomats, politicians and experts from Pridnestrovie, Moldova, Russia, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia were invited to the discussion. The participants of the conference told PSU students, Suvorovites and cadets about the role of the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie.

On July 21, 1992, thanks to the efforts of the Russian Federation, an agreement was signed on the principles of a peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in Pridnestrovie. A few days later, on July 27, the Joint Control Commission was formed to monitor the observance of the ceasefire regime, the creation of a security zone between the parties to the conflict.

The conference participants called the peacekeeping operation unique in its effectiveness, thanks to which for 30 years no more blood was shed, not a single civilian was killed and not a single peacekeeping soldier was injured.

The role of peacekeepers was emphasized by Andrey Safonov, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Public Associations and Mass Media.

Greeting addresses on the occasion of the international scientific and practical conference were sent by the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Konstantin Zatulin, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vitaly Tryapitsyn, Head of the Official Representation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the Russian Federation Leonid Manakov.

Monuments were erected to peacekeepers in Pridnestrovie, in Bendery and the Arch of Peace “Blessed are the peacemakers” in the village of Parkany in gratitude to the Russian peacekeepers.
