The republic has provided for criminal liability for theft of car license plates since 2014. The Supreme Council improved the norms of the law several years ago due to the growth in the number of such offenses. Penalties were introduced for those who extorted large sums for the return of car license plates. This is a fine from 500 to 1500 minimum wage or compulsory work from 160 to 200 hours. More severe - criminal liability: correctional labor or imprisonment for up to 1 year.
Deputies of the Supreme Council considered today in the course of the plenary online meeting a proposal to mitigate punishment for violators who break the law, for example, out of envy or revenge. The corresponding law-in-draft was sent by the republic's prosecutor. The author of the amendments suggested introducing not criminal, but administrative liability for the theft of car license plates not for selfish purposes (extortion of money) and not in order to commit a grave or especially grave crime.
The Parliament adopted law-in-draft in the first reading. The second profile committee on legislation will work out the amount of administrative fines.
