05.05.2020

The Great Patriotic War lasted 1418 days. It claimed the lives of more than 20 million people, and divided the fate of the survivors into “before” and “after”. The history of military events of the last century is now on the pages of textbooks, and the name of each Soviet hero is in the memory of posterity. Family archives keep photographs, awards, documents of participants in the Great Patriotic War.

The family of the Supreme Council Deputy Vitaly Kalin knows his heroes. His paternal grandfather Kalin Andrey Alekseevich was seriously wounded and shell-shocked in the war. He participated in the Iasi-Chisinau operation and reached Berlin. Vitaly Kalin did not have time to talk with his grandfather about heroism and soldier feat. Veteran passed away early. Awards speak about his exploits.

Online resources help to learn about the heroes of World War II. The Kalin family learned about the heroic path of another relative by means of one of these sites. Grandfather of the wife of Vitaly Kalin - Guk Dmitry Averkievich - was a miner, started the war in July 1941. He served in the 15th Guards Mine Battalion as part of the North Caucasus Front. In 1943, he cleared a large area of mine so that Soviet troops could advance further.

Among the awards of the hero Dmitry Guk are the medals “For the Defense of the Caucasus”, “For the Liberation of Prague”, “Berlin Medal”. They all modestly lay in the veteran’s closet, says Vitaliy Kalin. Grandfather did not like to remember the war.

The feat of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War continues to live in the hearts of the next generations. The annual campaign "Immortal Regiment" this year on May 9 will be held in an online format. You can post a photo of your veteran on social networks. The main thing, the deputy believes, about the exploits of his relatives - soldiers and officers of the Red Army - you need to remember at home in the family circle.

Deputy of the Supreme Council comes to the monument to liberators from German-Romanian invaders in the village of Gidirim to honor the memory of heroes. This is the largest monument in the Rybnitsa district. It was opened on May 9, 1991. More than 300 villagers participated in World War II. 117 residents of Gidirim did not return from the battlefields. The names of the heroes are carved on memorial plates. The monument is updated for the anniversary of the Great Victory. The monument was included in the list of the target program for the preservation of immovable cultural heritage of the PMR for 2019–2021.
