08.08.08 is a black day in the history of South Ossetia. The capital of the republic Tskhinval was subjected to massive shelling 14 years ago on the night of August 7-8. Georgian troops launched a special operation "Clear Field", the purpose of which was the destruction of the Republic of South Ossetia. The base of Russian peacekeepers was destroyed, the South Ossetian parliament building burned to the ground, city buildings and residential buildings were destroyed and burned. Hundreds of civilians, old people, children died. Georgian aviation launched the first bombing strikes on the territory of South Ossetia on the morning of August 8.
The fighting continued until 12 August. Russia helped establish peace. Within a few days, the Georgian troops were defeated and driven out of the republic. Pridnestrovians provided support to the residents of South Ossetia in those terrible days. Four volunteer rescue teams arrived to help restore the destroyed fraternal republic.
A memorial service was held today at the Memorial of Military Glory in the capital of Pridnestrovie in memory of those whose lives were taken away by the war 14 years ago. Deputy of the Supreme Council Grigory Dyachenko expressed his condolences to the South Ossetian people.
