Today, on the day of the formation of the People's Militia, the defenders from the ranks of the People's Militia were remembered in every city of Pridnestrovie. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky, Speaker of the Parliament Alexander Korshunov, Deputy of the Supreme Council Igor Buga, members of the public, the People's Militia, relatives and friends of the fallen defenders of Pridnestrovie laid flowers at the capital's Memorial of Glory to the eternal flame and graves where the heroes were buried.
The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that it was completely clear what caused the need to create the People's Militia of Pridnestrovie. The goal was to protect our people. When the nationalists of Moldova started hostilities against the Pridnestrovian people, then the people stood up to defend themselves of course. This is confirmed by the creation of the People's Militia that felt the greatest burden in protecting Pridnestrovie.
The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic thanked the People's Militia, guards, law enforcement officers, peacekeepers and all Pridnestrovians who defended and maintain peace on Pridnestrovian land.
“The People's militiamen went to war from their jobs after a brief training, and sometimes without it, went into battle. The personnel of the militia always showed courage and organization, which allowed the defenders to hold strategically important positions. The defenders of the republic, the militias lacked weapons, equipment and ammunition. They compensated for this shortcoming with their steadfastness, heroism, self-sacrifice and military cunning,” Chairman of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov said in his welcoming address.
The Speaker of the Parliament emphasized that the People's Militia will always be a symbol of the unity of Pridnestrovians in the face of trials, an example of love for the native land, fortitude, courage, heroism and self-sacrifice.
The People's militiamen who died 30 years ago defending the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic were also remembered at the Tirotex enterprise in the capital. Valery Vaskin, like thousands of Pridnestrovians, joined the ranks of the People's militia in 1992. Then he worked as an electronics engineer at Tirotex, was a deputy of the Tiraspol City Council. Recalling the events of 30 years ago, he emphasizes that at first there weren’t even enough weapons for everyone.
People of various professions stood up to defend the republic - factory and plant workers, employees, drivers and teachers in March 1992, from the very beginning of Moldova's armed aggression against Pridnestrovie. More than 200 textile workers working at the Tiraspol enterprise joined the ranks of the militia. 12 of them did not return home. A memorial complex was opened on the territory of the Tirotex enterprise in memory of them. Employees of the enterprise laid flowers at the slabs where the names and surnames of the dead heroes were carved.
Battalions of the People's Militia numbered about 20 thousand people and operated in all cities and regions of the republic. As a result of the battles for the independence of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, 232 militiamen were killed, more than 200 were injured. Now the People's Militia of Pridnestrovie is a reserve of the Armed Forces of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
