Memory of the fallen guardsmen at the capital's Glory Memorial

Memorial service was held at the capital's Glory Memorial on the 33rd anniversary of the death of the soldiers of the 1st Battalion of the Republican Guard. Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, head of the Committee on Legislation, Protection of Citizens' Rights and Freedoms Galina Antyufeeva and Chairman of the Committee on Education and Public Associations Igor Buga, First President of the PMR, head of the Advisory Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies Igor Smirnov took part in the memorial events. The large-scale aggression of the Republic of Moldova against Pridnestrovie began 33 years ago. Dubossary was the first to come under fire. The Tiraspol guards were among those who stood in the enemy's way in the first days of the armed conflict.

A detachment of Moldovan militants attacked the military town of the civil defense regiment of the 14th Army in Cocieri, where the officers' families were located on the afternoon of March 2, 1992. The Tiraspol guards came to the aid of the families of the servicemen who were taken hostage, organizing the evacuation on March 3. Four guardsmen gave their lives in the battle. They were the commander of the 1st battalion of the Republican Guard Vasily Voronkov and his fighters – warrant officers Leonid Tolstenko and Sergey Shinkov, sergeant Sergey Titovsky. They are buried at the Glory Memorial in Tiraspol.

The memory of the fallen defenders of Pridnestrovie was honored with a minute of silence. Fresh flowers were laid at the Eternal Flame and the graves of the fallen defenders of Pridnestrovie.

Igor Buga noted that in the 1990s the republic rose up to preserve its national identity, its native language and its right to life.

Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Galina Antyufeeva recalled the importance of preserving peace and historical memory.

804 Pridnestrovians in total died in the battles for the independence of the young republic during the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict. 271 of these were civilians, 41 women, 13 children. Almost 1.5 thousand people were injured. 91 went missing.
