The Bendery Tragedy Museum was reopened

19.06.2022

The Memorial Museum of the Bendery Tragedy was opened in the city after reconstruction on the day of the 30th anniversary of the start of full-scale hostilities in Bendery. This year marks a quarter of a century since its opening. The current renovation is the first in the history of the museum. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, speaker Alexander Korshunov, parliamentarians attended the opening of the museum.

The reconstruction of the museum, which was completed by June 19, was initiated by the President. Repair work was carried out with funds allocated from the Capital Investment Fund. A major overhaul took place in the building itself, furniture was updated, equipment was modernized, new exhibits appeared, and now the museum staff, thanks to new technical equipment, has more opportunities to visualize the events of 30 years ago. There is multimedia in the Museum of the Bendery Tragedy now. Touch screens are designed to view video materials. The photographs have also been digitized. They collected about three hundred. Audio systems are installed in two halls. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about the special social and historical significance of the museum.

Parliamentarians from Bendery headed by speaker Alexander Korshunov visited here on the eve of the opening of the museum after the restoration, when not all the exhibits had yet been put in their places. Like the President they were told that the museum workers themselves collected the first exhibits in the summer of 1992, and the first stands dedicated to the events of that summer appeared in the Bendery museums in August, immediately after the hostilities ended in the city. Museum workers consider the Pridnestrovian flag to be one of the most valuable exhibits, which during the hostilities in the summer of 1992 fluttered over the building of the city executive committee, remaining an inaccessible target for Moldovan militants. The museum contains documents and personal belongings of participants in the hostilities to protect Bendery. There are shell fragments. The renovated museum has retained its significance and will be of interest to a wide audience. Excursions for schoolchildren and adult visitors will be held here, as before. It is planned that various thematic events will be held at the site of the Museum of the Bendery Tragedy.
