The Youth Parliament discussed topical issues with the Government Chairman

28.04.2023

The topic of bullying in schools was raised by deputies of the Youth Parliament at the Government level. Young parliamentarians participated today in an online meeting between Chairman of the Government Alexander Rosenberg and public organizations. Deputy Chairman Roman Efodiev informed that an anonymous survey was conducted among students on whether they faced bullying in schools last year. Approximately 300 people participated in total, 43% of which answered that they had experienced bullying. The highest percentage is in Dnestrovsk (about 61% of the respondents) and the lowest is in Bendery (about 17%). The results of the survey were announced as part of a round table with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and psychologists.

The topic of violence among teenagers was raised: abuse of peers. According to Roman Efodiev, it is necessary to carry out explanatory work with young people, talk about the consequences: bringing to administrative responsibility (if not teenagers themselves, then their parents), which in general may affect the reputation of young people in the future.

The Prime Minister noted that the problem of bullying in schools is not new to society and has existed at all times. He expressed the opinion that such conversations should be conducted by young people themselves – representatives of youth organizations – with the assistance of the Ministry of Education.

They talked in addition about promoting a healthy lifestyle. It is necessary according to the Youth Parliament to protect underage children from the use of electronic cigarettes and vapes. The Youth Parliament intends to propose to the deputies of the Supreme Council to jointly develop law-in-draft banning smoking of hovering devices by children under 18 years of age. It was noted that their use can cause various diseases, so it is necessary to strengthen the propaganda of the consequences of smoking vapes, etc. The Ministry of Health, together with youth organizations, will work out an effective format for communicating with adolescents on this topic.

The meeting participanets discussed the issue of buffet work at the State University. They were closed during the pandemic and now not all have resumed work, Roman Efodiev noted. Students and their health may suffer. As PSU First Vice-Rector Larisa Skitskaya explained, buffets are currently operating at the Medical Faculty of PSU, in buildings number 1 and number 4. The buffet in building number 2 will resume work after the completion of repairs in the building. The Government Chairman instructed the management of PSU to work out the issue related to the opening of a buffet at the Faculty of Economics, so that students were provided with food during classes at the university.

The participants of the meeting touched upon the development of sports in the republic. According to Alexander Rosenberg, the specialized civil service needs to cooperate more actively with youth organizations in this matter, identify talented athletes and provide them with assistance to participate in sports competitions.
