30.11.2020

Russian peacekeepers in Pridnestrovie have proven their effectiveness, and there is no reason for withdrawn of this mission on the Dniester, but calls for the elimination of the mission only lead to increase in tensions between the two banks of the Dniester. Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Viktor Vodolatsky told Sputnik Moldova agency. This is how the parliamentarian commented on the statement of the elected President of Moldova Maia Sandu on the need to withdraw Russian troops and peacekeepers from the territory of Pridnestrovie and replace them with OSCE peacekeepers.

According to the Deputy, such statements of the newly elected President of the Republic of Moldova do not contribute to the strengthening of confidence between the two banks of the Dniester.

Viktor Vodolatsky noted that the Russian peacekeepers in Pridnestrovie have proven their effectiveness, and there is no reason to withdraw the peacekeeping mission from the region.

The Kremlin reacted to the statements of Maya Sandu. Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation said that a change in the status quo could lead to destabilization of the situation in Pridnestrovie.

Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the proposal to withdraw peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie was not discussed in advance by the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation.
