Peacekeepers: reconciling warring

28.07.2018

The Peace Arch "Blessed are the peacemakers" is installed on the way from Tiraspol to Bendery, near the village of Parkany. It was on this road in 1992 that the Cossacks, guardsmen and militiamen rushed to the rescue of besieged Bendery. It was on it in late July of the same year that Russian peacekeepers were traveling. They were servicemen of the Pskov and Tula airborne divisions. The long-suffering Pridnestrovians greeted them with flowers and tears of joy - the war was over, the world came.

The arch "Blessed are the peacemakers", as a real thanks to peacekeepers, people reconciling warring, was opened last year. The President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Farit Muchametshin, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba, Prime Minister Alexander Martynov, parliamentarians, representatives of ministries and departments, labor collectives, public organizations, servicemen of the peacekeeping forces and the Ministry of Defense of the PMR took part in the solemn opening.

Pridnestrovie is the third state in the post-Soviet space, following Russia and Ukraine, where an international architectural center "Peace Law", implementing the large-scale project "The Road of Peace", has established such an architectural structure. At the same time it is still the most magnificent of the existing ones. The authors of the project are students of the PSU who won a special competition for the best sketch of the monument. The construction of "Blessed are the peacemakers" at the Parkany Arch was made possible thanks to the active participation and financial support of Irina Umnova-Konyukhova, the head of the "Peace of Peace" Center.

The Arch near the village of Parkany becomes a place of traditional solemn events dedicated to the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Pridnestrovie. Here and this morning the sounds of the national anthems of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the Russian Federation sounded over the banks of the gray Dnister. They announced the beginning of the solemn rally, dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the beginning of the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie.

The head of the republic drew attention to the fact that in 1992 the Russian soldier once again extended a helping hand to Pridnestrovians. Now it is the turn of all Pridnestrovians to extend a helping hand to the Russian servicemen, to support the current format of the peacekeeping operation on the banks of the Dniester, which has turned 26 years old. Vadim Krasnoselsky expressed to all peacekeepers - and Russian, and Pridnestrovian, and Moldovan - words of gratitude for the military feat.

Romanov, Chargé d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Moldova, received the baton of speeches from the head of our state. He read the welcome address, which was sent by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin. The Russian diplomat noted in it that the beginning of the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie was scheduled for July 21, 1992. This day in Moscow, an agreement was signed on the principles of a peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in Pridnestrovie. Thanks to the Russian Federation, this legal document has divided the opposing sides and put a peaceful point in the armed conflict between the Republic of Moldova and Pridnestrovie. After forcing Moldova to peace, Russia acted as the guarantor of peace and stability on the banks of the Dniester. According to the 1992 Agreement with a ceasefire, the conflicting parties withdrew to the permanent deployment areas of their Armed Forces, combat equipment and armaments in a seven-day period. Thus, a Security Zone was formed between the opposing sides, in which the Joint Peacekeeping Forces were established.

The representative of the Russian embassy conveyed congratulations on the 26th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie on behalf of the Russian Ambassador to Moldova Farit Mukhametshin, who performed his diplomatic mission for the past six years. By the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the new Russian ambassador to Moldova was appointed Yury Vasnetsov.

At the end of the meeting, Vadim Krasnoselsky and Roman Romanov clanged the arch bell, announcing peace and stability on the Pridnestrovian land. Before the participants of the rally, dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation, the line of columns of the military subdivisions of the power structures of our republic passed with a solemn march.

For reference: Control over the implementation of the peacekeeping operation and the provision of security regime is entrusted to the Joint Control Commission, formed on July 27, 1992. The commission included representatives of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Moldova and Pridnestrovie. The seat of the Joint Control Commission was the city of Bendery. To date, 441 servicemen from the Russian Federation, 453 servicemen from the Republic of Moldova, 490 military personnel from the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, as well as 10 military observers from Ukraine have been carrying out peacekeeping missions, which annexed in 1995.
