International Day of the Blind is celebrated on the 13th of November. The events dedicated to this date were held on the initiative of Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Ilona Tyuryaeva at constituency No. 28 “Central”. They ended with a festive concert, which took place today at the Rassvet production facility.
The last concert in a series of events dedicated to the month of white cane was organized by members of the Society of the Blind on their own. The visually impaired and the completely blind have prepared several performances. They recited poems and performed songs, including their own compositions.
There were really a lot of events: excursions for the visually impaired, lessons in schools, a flash mob, a culinary competition and another excursion, this time for schoolchildren. The events were held to draw attention to people with vision problems over the course of a month, in the Central electoral district, where a large number of visually impaired and completely blind Tiraspol residents live compactly.
The first on the list of events was an excursion to the Novo-Nyametsky Monastery in Kitskany for a group of visually impaired and completely blind people. A small group of 20 people visited the largest monastery in Pridnestrovie and Moldova. The monk guide spoke about the history of the monastery, the traditions of monasticism, the revered shrines of the monastery and the life of the modern brethren.
Medical students on the initiative of Ilona Tyuryaeva and with the support of the Faculty of Medicine of Pridnestrovian State University conducted two large lessons with a quiz for the students of the capital’s school No. 3, which is also located at the parliamentarian’s constituency. Future doctors talked about how to protect their own vision. The schoolchildren visited the Rassvet Unitary Enterprise, where they were shown and told how the visually impaired work then. The children learned that extension cords that are familiar to everyone, clothespins and clothes hangers that are so necessary in everyday life are made not by machines, but by visually impaired people, by hand.
The children were shown the Republican Sports and Fitness Center “Athletic”, where the visually impaired also work out. They took us through the gyms, the chess club, and showed us the tennis hall and the library. They even explained how completely blind and visually impaired people read books printed in Braille. Training with the children was conducted in the gym. This is tennis by ear.
The “Housewife” culinary competition was organized for completely blind housewives. The ladies competed in cutting salads. An independent expert from the Tiraspol College of Commerce, where future chefs are trained, was invited to evaluate their work.
Activists of the youth “Renewal” and students of the College of Commerce reminded the capital’s drivers and pedestrians how to properly help a blind person without harming them. They held a flash mob together and distributed leaflets to drivers and passers-by.
A large concert, in which talented visually impaired people and students from the Institute of Arts took part, was organized at the Athletic Center. Concert participants performed works by blind poets and singers. Members of the Society of the Blind, employees of the Rassvet Unitary Enterprise and para-athletes were presented with letters of gratitude from the President, diplomas of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and departmental awards of the Ministry of Social Protection and the State Service for Sports at the end of the performances.
