The Soldier's duty

27.12.2017

On December 25, 1979, Soviet troops entered Afghanistan: the Kabul airfield was landed by paratroopers of the 350th Guards Parachute Regiment under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Georgy Shpak.

About two million Soviet soldiers had been to Afghanistan for 10 years. More than two thousand Pridnestrovians became participants in that terrible war, 54 of them never returned home. Disputes about that war do not stop until now. However, Afghanistan will always remain in the hearts of many people.

Today veterans of the Afghan war came to the monument to internationalists at the Glory Memorial in Tiraspol to pay tribute to the memory and lay flowers to the granite slabs. As Igor Buga noted, changes to the legislation will be prepared by the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.
