The International Day of Parliamentarism will be celebrated on June 30

Two initiatives of Russia formed the basis for the resolution, which was approved at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. It is about the establishment of the International Day of Parliamentarism and the holding of the World Conference on Interreligious and Interethnic Dialogue.

The proposal to establish the International Day of Parliamentarism was put forward by the IPA CIS, Russian senators also acted as "locomotives" of the initiative. In order for the resolution's provisions to be implemented, it was necessary to approve the document at the meeting of the UN General Assembly - this happened on May 22.

The international day of parliamentarism will be celebrated on June 30 from this year - so it is written in the resolution. The holding of a World Conference under the auspices of the UN, which requires serious preparation, is scheduled for 2022.

Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Ilyas Umakhanov is convinced that the adoption of such a decision of the UN is not only a demonstration of the work of Russian lawmakers, but also demonstration of the growing role of parliaments in today's world.

The establishment of the International Day of Parliamentarism will help to attract the attention of the international community to the important role of parliamentarians in ensuring peace, stability, economic growth and prosperity of the whole world, and to promote the development of a positive image of parliamentarism as the basic democratic tradition.
