27.02.2023

Seeing off Pancake Week is a traditional Russian holiday that is celebrated before Lent. It symbolizes farewell to winter and welcome to spring. Pancake Week festivities were held in the village of Novotiraspolsky on the 25th of February. It was organized by Deputy of the Supreme Council for district number 25 "Western" Galina Antyufeeva, the Russian community of Tiraspol, local authorities and the "Renewal" (Obnovlenie) party.

Guests of the holiday were greeted by music, singers and dance groups performed on the central square of Novotiraspolsky. Children have their own program – games and entertainment for every taste and age. Everyone who came to the holiday was treated to pancakes, gingerbread, bagels and hot tea. One of the main events of the festivities was the traditional burning of an effigy of Pancake Week. Many spectators gathered to watch the ceremony.

Shrovetide was held widely and on a grand scale, everyone rejoiced at the imminent arrival of spring, bright performances, music, games and traditional treats. The air was filled with the smell of freshly baked pancakes, mulled wine and hot tea. The inhabitants of Novotiraspol were like one big family, where they preserve traditions and adhere to cultural values common to Pridnestrovie.
